Introduction to Grid Tied PV
Saturday, October 28, 2006
7:30 A.M. til 12:00 noon
Auditorium, Maui Electric Company, Ltd., Kahului
Instructor Bill Brooks will review technology basics, including photovoltaic principles, main system components, site analysis and installation fundamentals. Economics (understanding tax credits) as well as net energy metering will also be discussed. This workshop is intended for the general public and all individuals interested in installing a photovoltaic system. Instructor: William F. Brooks, P.E., Brooks Engineering
Mr. Brooks is a consultant to the PV industry on a variety of performance, troubleshooting and training topics. His primary focus since 1992 is the analysis and testing of photovoltaic systems for utility-interconnected applications. In 1998, he established a training program in California for PV system installers and inspectors. During the past few years, this program has helped over 1,500 inspectors and over 3,000 electricians and installers understand the issues surrounding PV systems and provided them with the background to deliver code-compliant systems. His field troubleshooting skills have been valuable in determining where problems occur to focus training on those issues of greatest need. He has written several important technical manuals for the industry that are now widely used in California and beyond. His experience includes work on technical review committees for the National Electrical Code on photovoltaics and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) for utility interconnection standards. He received special recognition by IEEE for his contribution to the IEEE Std 929-2000 Recommended Practice for Utility Interface of Photovoltaic (PV) Systems. Mr. Brooks holds Bachelor and Master of Science Degrees in Mechanical Engineering from North Carolina State University and is a Registered Professional Engineer in both North Carolina and California.
